Subway has launched an investigation following a customer’s claim that she discovered a tooth in one of their sandwiches. Lauren Murray, a 21-year-old from Belfast, made the alarming find after ordering three meals from Subway’s Woodstock Road branch on Monday, May 27.

Lauren had placed the order via the Deliveroo app for herself, her boyfriend, and his brother. However, while eating her chicken-bacon-salad sub, she felt an unexpected, hard object in her mouth. Initially thinking it was a piece of onion, she spat it out, only to realize it appeared to be a tooth. She even took a photo, showing a small white object on top of the Subway packaging.

“I immediately threw up,” Lauren told the Belfast Telegraph. “I couldn’t get over it. I knew right away it was a tooth or crown of some kind, and I was just really disgusted by it. Even looking at it afterward, I just kept feeling really ill.”

Lauren contacted Deliveroo shortly after the incident. The company assured her they would inform the restaurant. However, she claims that Subway has not reached out to her, despite her attempts to contact the branch directly.

A spokesperson for Subway told the Belfast Telegraph that they are investigating the alleged incident. “The health and safety of our guests is a top priority. The alleged incident is being investigated directly with the franchisee,” the spokesperson said.

The photograph Lauren shared shows the object she identified as a tooth, placed on top of the sandwich wrapping. This image has contributed to the gravity of her claim and the ensuing investigation by Subway.

While Lauren’s experience has been distressing, the response from Subway indicates that they are taking the matter seriously. The investigation will likely focus on identifying how the object ended up in the sandwich and implementing measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

Instances like this can severely impact a brand’s reputation, and Subway’s prompt action to address the claim reflects their commitment to maintaining customer trust and ensuring food safety standards are upheld.

As Lauren waits for a resolution, the incident serves as a reminder of the importance of stringent hygiene and safety practices in the food industry. Customers rely on these standards to ensure that their dining experiences are not only enjoyable but also safe.

The outcome of Subway’s investigation will be crucial in determining the next steps and any necessary changes to their procedures. For Lauren, it’s a matter of receiving acknowledgment and assurance that such an incident will not happen again. For Subway, it’s an opportunity to reinforce their dedication to customer safety and quality.

This incident has drawn significant attention, highlighting the potential risks in food preparation and the importance of swift and thorough responses from food service providers when such claims arise.
