When relationships go off the rails, ex-lovers can do some pretty awful things. But when Ashley Farley learned what her ex-boyfriend was doing on the internet, she was furious and disappointed in herself forever loving such a cruel person. As it turned out, Ashley learned that her ex-boyfriend was using Craigslist to sell beloved, five-pound Pomeranian, Ella, to the highest bidder – and she discovered this one day after she returned home to find her dog missing.
Since day one of making a move to Los Angeles in a bid to pursue her music career, Ashley has been plagued with anxiety and stress and depression. The big city life has gotten under her skin, and that’s why she leaned on Ella so much. The dog was an emotional support animal who was her “heart and soul” and helped Ashley navigate the difficulties of being on the path to musical stardom.
At the time that the man sold Ashley’s beloved pet, they were still in a relationship. Things had yet to reach a head – but this incident was what pushed them over the edge. After coming home from work, she wanted nothing more than to snuggle up with her pooch and decompress from the stress-inducing day. She turned to her then-boyfriend and asked where her dog was.
“He turned to me with the most spiteful smile that I’ve ever seen someone give anybody.”
At the time, they had been together for just three months. Nevertheless, he felt compelled to control every aspect of her life. He might have been jealous that Ella was Ashley’s emotional support, or he might just have wanted to make his girlfriend suffer. Either way, what he did broke Ashley apart and made her world come crashing down on her.
After flashing her the spiteful smile, her now ex-boyfriend revealed that he’d sold the Pomeranian on Craigslist earlier that day. And for a pretty penny.
Then he did something that Ashley never saw coming. He dumped her!
Eventually, Ashley was able to get enough news coverage to take action. Inside Edition took notice of her sob story, and she showed them the ad her boyfriend had created, which was filled with lies.
“Trying to find a new home for my gorgeous little princess. Just got a new job, so I have to move across the country, and my new place does not allow dogs of any kind.”
After selling her dog and dumping her, her ex-boyfriend sent her a “reassuring” text message that read, “Ella is safe and sound in her new home. You’ll never see her again.”
Ashley refused to give up. She filed a police report and went to the media. But she didn’t know if it was going to work. And there was another complication – Ella needed medication for an infection, or she could die.
Thankfully, one couple saw the news story and made a startling connection. In a matter of hours, they were able to reach out to Ashley and notify her that they knew where her dog was.
At least this story had a happy ending.
